چکیده

BACKGROUND Effect size reporting and interpreting practices have been extensively recommended in academic journals when analyzing primary outcomes of all empirical studies. Accordingly, the sample squared multiple correlation coefficient is the commonly reported strength of association index in practical applications of multiple linear regression. METHOD This paper examines the sample size procedures proposed by Bonett and Wright for precise interval estimation of the squared multiple correlation coefficient. RESULTS The simulation results showed that their simple method for attaining the desired precision of expected width provides satisfactory results only when sample sizes are large. Moreover, the suggested sample size formula for achieving the designated assurance probability is inaccurate and problematic. CONCLUSIONS According to these findings, their sample size procedures are not recommended.

Bayesian Inference for Spatial Beta Generalized Linear Mixed Models

In some applications, the response variable assumes values in the unit interval. The standard linear regression model is not appropriate for modelling this type of data because the normality assumption is not met. Alternatively, the beta regression model has been introduced to analyze such observations. A beta distribution represents a flexible density family on (0, 1) interval that covers symm...

EVALUATION OF CONCRETE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK AND MULTIPLE LINEAR REGRESSION MODELS

In the present study, two different data-driven models, artificial neural network (ANN) and multiple linear regression (MLR) models, have been developed to predict the 28 days compressive strength of concrete. Seven different parameters namely 3/4 mm sand, 3/8 mm sand, cement content, gravel, maximums size of aggregate, fineness modulus, and water-cement ratio were considered as input variables...

Effects of Drying Temperature and Aggregate Shape on the Concrete Compressive Strength: Experiments and Data Mining Techniques

The main purpose of this paper is to assess the impact of the geometry and size of the aggregate, as well as the drying temperature on the compressive strength of the ordinary concrete. To this end, two aggregates with sharp and round corners were prepared in three different aggregate sizes. After preparing concrete samples, the drying operations were carried out in the vicinity of room tempera...

An Application of Linear Model in Small Area Estimationof Orange production in Fars province

Methods for small area estimation have been received great attention in recent years due to growing demand for reliable small area estimation that are needed in development planings, allocation of government funds and marking business decisions. The key question in small area estimation is how to obtain reliable estimations when sample size is small. When only a few observations(or even no o...

Bayesian Sample Size Determination for Joint Modeling of Longitudinal Measurements and Survival Data

A longitudinal study refers to collection of a response variable and possibly some explanatory variables at multiple follow-up times. In many clinical studies with longitudinal measurements, the response variable, for each patient is collected as long as an event of interest, which considered as clinical end point, occurs. Joint modeling of continuous longitudinal measurements and survival time...
